Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Kansas City
When Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Kansas City decided it was time to overhaul their website, they had big aspirations:
- a high-end design that captured the playfulness of the organization, the importance of their donors and volunteers and the scope of impact for children in our community;
- an interface that facilitates volunteer and event involvement as well as donations;
- technology that supports key organizational processes – from taming the ‘Be a Big’ application process for online conversions to keeping a broad range of events related content up-to-date.
To accomplish their vision BBBSKC enlisted three local companies to work in tandem: Whiskey Design, 19 Below and Clickfarm Interactive.
Clickfarm Interactive worked with Whiskey Design throughout the initial design process to ensure user-friendly functionality and scalable build approaches were on point, while bringing Whiskey Design’s vision for motion, colorful scroll-based animations, and uniquely crafted, responsive layouts to life.
Lengthy volunteer and match applications were partitioned into manageable sections, so applicants could save their progress and return to forms at their convenience. Filterable event types tamed their calendar, allowing users to easily discover volunteer and recruitment events, match activities and signature events.
Clickfarm Interactive leveraged Drupal for the base site build of BBBSKC.org. Custom programming solutions were created to optimize site load time (for a site with lots of big assets) and to improve the interactive experience not only for the site’s audience, but also for content administrators. Custom technology solutions included: saved form completion progress; automated notifications for both applicants and internal staff; and key third-party integrations, such as BlackBaud and Authorize.Net.
